"Old spirits inhabiting wooden totems. They don't usually interact with humans much. They can be kind to those who respect them, but they'll often play tricks on the careless!"
— Journal Description

Mwakens are characters that appear in Tchia.

Story[]

Mwakens are spirits that possess wooden totems. The Mwakens live in Mwaken Village on the mysterious island of Ieji Sinöe. The Mwakens are known to capture intruders on the island though they are kind to those who respect them. This can be seen in their relationship with the island's guardian Kavere. After Tchia arrived on the island, the Mwakens subsequently captured her and held her in a cage while they rummaged through her bag. After they found her Ukulele and failed to play, Tchia convinced them to bring it to her so that she could play a song for them. Kavere and the Mwakens greatly enjoyed her song and released her soon after.

Gameplay[]

As the Mwakens are spirts possessing wooden totems, Tchia can do the same to them with Soul-Jump. When possessing a Mwaken, Tchia can aim and shoot explosive projectiles. Despite this, Mwakens cannot move very fast or jump very high due to their small legs. Completing the Rock Balancing activity on Ieji Sinöe will unlock the Invoke Mwaken Soul-Melody and allow Tchia to summon a Mwaken anywhere. This is useful when needing to destroy something with explosives or when clearing out Maano Camps with fire. Once a Mwaken is summoned, a timer of 120 seconds will countdown before the Soul-Melody can be used again.

Trivia[]

  • The notes that need to be played for Invoke Mwaken are F, A, C, E. This is a reference to the fact that Mwaken's are possessed totems.
  • Aiming and shooting while possessing a Mwaken will cause drum sound effects to be played.
